Hey all,
First of all, thanks to Old Coot and many others who gave me some great tips and locations to try at Renegade.
I went to Sportsmans on Friday and picked up two LuckyCraft pointer minnows. One for me and one for my cousin. The surprised girl at the checkout was sure that they were priced wrong at $14.99 each. I assured her that the price marked was correct. I walked out of there feeling like an idiot for buying 2 lures for $30.00.
Anyway, back to the fishing. We launched at daylight from Renegade. We went out to our first of 5 or 6 spots that we wanted to try out and pretty much got right into the fish. We caught a 1/2 dozen or so in about a 1/2 hour, and then we did a stupid thing. We left fish to find fish. We talked ourselves into going and trying the other places we wanted to try.
Well, in the middle of the bay on our way to the 2nd spot, my boat motor decided that it was only going to work at trolling speeds.
Long story short, that pretty much put the kaibosh on fishing the rest of the morning.
Lesson (re)learned: Don't leave fish to find fish.
We ended up with 11 fish, with most of those caught in the first 1/2 hour and the last 1/2 hour near the ramp. The rest of the time we trolled around aimlessly while I tried to fix the motor.
Oh, by the way, I'll be purchasing more of those LuckyCrafts. I did side by side testing with my other previous favorite Strawberry lure. My previous favorite caught ZERO. LuckyCraft: 5!
This big fish of the day was a fat 24.5 incher (on the LuckyCraft!)
