Fished the Berry with OldCoot and Yomni. Started out at the ladders with fairly good success for the first few hours. OldCoot's first fish of the day was a rainbow plus he caught a rainbow a couple hours later and had something big on but lost it. Wish I would of seen what he had hooked in to. Caught all the fish vertical jigging.
The catching was tough after 11:00am only caught about 3 more and had a hand full of bites up untill 3:30pm.
Had a slight breeze first thing in the morning. At 11:00am it picked up a bit but never did get too bad.
Water temperature was 59* and air temperature at 6:30am was about 36* at the strawberry marina.

Very good report! Sounds like you guys had a good time. Hopefully I'll be back up there Saturday a.m. before the afternoon storm hits. My cousin is having a hard time getting the day off however.
I wouldn't doubt that Old Coot hooked into a big one! I know they are in there!
Those look like pretty good sized Rainbows!

With the cooler temps moving in the fish seem to be relocating. Have to figure out where they are going after 11:00am.

I think you are right. They have really turned off at the Ladders around that time (11:00) lately. According to my ledger from last year, it was about 2 weeks from now when we started fishing other areas than the Ladders for the same reason!
I hope those fish are creatures of habit!
I'd be anxious to see how big of a fish Old Coot hooked into!

[#002850]Nice trip with Yonni and MGB. Got up early (3:45) so that we could be on the water at sun up. Captain Mike is always great company. Since I am still just starting to get familiar with the Berry, it was nice to be tour guided by Mike and to pick up a few fish in the mean time. Nope, the Berry wasn't "on fire" for number of fish willing to bite our hooks but hey, the 8 that I caught were a hoot just the same.
Like Mike mentioned, I did have a nice bruiser on for just a moment. That big ole boy bent my pole BIG time, took drag for a quarter mile, and then it was over. I just stood there blinking my eyes in wonderment.
Later in the day I had to laugh (I have a bad habit of laughing at other's misfortunes) at Yonni. All of a sudden, I hear this "… So .. of .. a B …" coming from him. I look over and he's holding a 1-piece rod gone 2-piece with a bow hanging on it. And now it's his turn to stand there blinking his eyes in wonderment.
On our way home, just out of the marina, we stopped to see the red big-nosed spawning kokes in the stream. I guess the run is pretty much over because we only seen a hand full. But I found it interesting none the less because I had never seen it before.
I forgot to mention, Bait_Caster and TrophyHunter were down there with us in TH's boat. I don't really know how well they did but I did see BC get woke up from a nap to have a NICE cut on! Heck of a way to be woke from a nap.
Good to meet you for the first time Yonni and as always, good fishing with MGB.[/#002850]

My cousin catches fish like that...I refer to it as "his patented sleeping technique".
I would say he catches 25% of all of his fish caught that way!

[black]As fishermen get older, they find out how important it is to check their eyelids for holes on a regular basis. [/black]
