#1
The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will be temporarily closing the Lake of Isles State [#ff6633]Boat[/#ff6633] Launch in North Stonington for renovations from May 14, 2007 through July 15, 2007 while the State boat launch is being upgraded and facilities enhanced. The comprehensive renovation project is being funded by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation as part of an agreement with the DEP for development of the property around the boat launch. The boat launch renovation project includes:
Boat Ramp – installing a new ramp of pre-cast concrete, with a grooved surface;
Access Road & Turning Area – prepping and paving the surfaces;
ADA Accessibility – installing a paved handicapped accessible parking area and travel way with unhindered access to the dock system;
Parking Area – improving parking design and installing a gravel surface.
"The rehabilitation of the boat launch will enhance recreational opportunities for boaters in the State," said Eleanor Mariani, Director of DEP’s Boating Division. "The renovations, which will be completed by mid-summer, will improve [#ff6633]boating[/#ff6633] operations with better designed parking and access roads, and an improved boat ramp; all facilitating the safe and efficient launching and retrieval of boats."
While the renovations are taking place, the public can utilize the following boat launches in the area: Amos Lake State Boat Launch in Preston, Avery Pond State Boat Launch in Preston, and the Long Pond State Boat Launch in North Stonington. For additional state owned boat launches see the CT Boater’s Guide or visit the Boating section of the DEP website at: www.ct.gov/dep
