grass carp
#1
Ok Ive been hunting some monster Grass carp for a few weeks now. I found a good lake. My first two trips to this lake I saw a large number of carp..but they were never really in feeding mode. They were just chillin in a few spots doing nothing. Well my third trip out....I finally see them feeding on something on the surface...They were gulping every few minutes....Felt like i was on Lake hebgon in MT. I threw all sorts of tiny dandruff flies and some emerger patterns. But no luck at all. I could not see what they were gulping. Any ideas on Fly patterns or what they may have been eating naturally??

I wish I could be more help with the fly fishing questions, and I appologize for not being more adapt to that style of fishing. But, i'm working on getting set up in it, just haven't purchased the outfit yet. I will, however, see if I can recruit some help to jump in and give you some tips! So, be patient, i'm going to hit up some of our resident fly anglers to jump in on this one.

As for what the carp are "gulping" on, it may be nothing. Have you ever had goldfish in a fish tank before? Goldfish and carp are related, and many times just like to gulp the surface for some fresh air. They might not have been feeding at all, just sucking air.

Carp will also eat small insects and algea on the surface, so keep that in mind. But, keep watching this post, help is on the way! [cool]
