Little Rock, Ark. (February 15, 2007) - The Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup's prize structure just blew up. In one quick move, sponsors of the Cup have come close to doubling the prize potential for every Redfish Nation event.
Triton Boats and Mercury Marine, the two sponsors whose support helped create the Redfish Cup almost five years ago, have started an angler incentive program that will infuse almost $800,000 into the prize structure of the 2007 Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup. The announcement was made during the Captain's Meeting at the All-Star Icebreaker event in Clearwater, Fla.
With a substantial contingency program already in place with new Cup sponsor Lake & Bay Boats, the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup OPEN and All-Star events sport more than $2 million in potential payback.
"Being the best is what the Redfish Cup is all about,'' said Neal Hart of Triton Boats. "Everyone and everything associated with this organization is top-drawer, especially the Triton anglers. This bonus money is Triton's way of saying 'thank you' for their business and for their efforts to expose our brand, and sport, to the thousands of future Redfish Cup anglers."
Lake & Bay is adding an additional $113,500 in incentives for qualifying anglers in the OPENS, All Star and Championship. They include $25,000 added to the Championship, $15,000 of which goes to the Champion and the rest spread throughout the final five.
"This is an incredible shot in the arm for professional redfishing,'' said Erik Rue, a top professional angler in the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup. "The money has basically doubled, allowing anglers to focus more on fishing in the most competitive tour in the country."
Mercury and Triton will each award a $15,000 first place contingency prize ($30,000 total) to the winning team in each OPEN division event and an additional $15,000 ($30,000 total) to the winner of each All-Star event if that team fishes a qualifying boat and/or engine.
In addition, Triton and Mercury will award contingency prizes of $37,750 to qualifying teams that place from 2nd to 20th at all events, raising the potential prize money to more than $166,000 at each OPEN and up to $191,750 at each All-Star event.
And it only gets better at the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship. That event already promises the sport's largest first place prize of $75,000. But this season, Triton and Mercury will each provide a contingency award of $25,000 ($50,000 total) to the overall champion creating the potential for a professional angling team to win $125,000 in one event if that team fishes out of a Triton and Mercury package.
Contingency prizes at that event will also be awarded to qualified championship teams that place in the top 15 of the 30-team field, bringing the total potential payout for that event at well over $250,000.
