Black Canyon Reservoir HELP
#1
Tell me if I'm nuts....but my fishing buddy and I are thinking about going bass fishing at Black Canyon Res this coming Sunday. We have never been there....can anyone give us some help? Where to put our boat in and what to expect the bass fishing to be like..what to use and where? OR should we just check ourselves into the "Funny Farm" now.

Thanks

I've never fished Black Canyon but I don't think you are crazy. The catching at this time of the year for Largemouths isn't the best but it is better than not going fishing at all. The nice thing is that there probably won't be many other fishermen out there. I wouldn't fish the shallow water unless the sun warms it up. I would fish jigs and plastics and choose the color and size depending on what I think the bass are eating. Whatever you choose to fish, make a very slow presentation.

EZOP or someone else might be able to give you some better information. Good luck if you get out.

Sorry, but I finally just read this thread, been on vacation. I fish it and work at the Dam also. Where you able to launch your boat? I believe the lake was down several feet and that's enough to make launching tough. There is 2 free boat launchs, one on each end of lake. I use them myself. I imagine the fishing would be very tough, I have a hard time in the spring and summer. Example: 3 to 5 fish for about 3 hours of fishing, all smallmouths. I favor the river right below the Dam. Catch rate is so much better.
Did you go that Sunday? When spring gets closer and if you still wanna give it a shot, post or PM me and I'll tell you what's going on with the lake or river. And if possible hook up for some bass fishing.

Hey EZOP-

I haven't fished below the dam in many years, but all I ever caught were chiselmouths. How far down are you fishing? And from the bank or boat? We used to hear about huge trout and bass but never caught anything but trash. We usually fished near the park on the south side and crossed the old bridge to the north sometimes. If I could figure out how to catch decent fish there, I would be inclined to try it again.

My favorite area is right below the Dam, Wild Rose Park is right there. Fish along the cement wall by the Powerhouse all the way down to where the pool starts to turn into rapids. I use plastics and crankbaits that represent Crawfish. Also had good luck with spinnerbaits for largemouth this last spring. If I attached the picture right, you can see the wall my wife is standing on.

I think that day we caught 9 smallmouths and 3 largemouth in a few hours. The catfishing is good there also, I don't fish for them, but have seen many stringers full of big cats from the night fisherman when I'm working. We have cameras all over so I can watch while I'm working. I have done well for trout, but I usually catch them while bass fishing by accident. I have not fished the river for over a month, so I don't know whats happening with the bite now.

Dear Jessie,

Thanks for the reply. We need not fish BC on Sunday. Instead we went to CJ Stike and caught a few nice Perch from the boat. I am sending you a PM please check it out and give me a call.

Thanks
Fishtoe
