Hello Fellow Big Fishers!

My first WBT tournament for 2007 is coming up in February on Lake Amistad in Del Rio, TX!

I've been researching it since October and wanted to post this thread for any new reports from those of you that live close by!

I am looking for the day when women and men compete on the same level. I know of several women who know enough about fishing to give the best anglers a run for thier boats.

any way wish ya the best of luck, I would like to respond with something helpfull but I am not in that area.

If you know the zip code the lake is in I would be happy to do a little research for you. my replys will be a bit slow, it is deer season in my state, "MI" but after the 30th I can do an indepth search for ya,

FYI: Just a little info. I live/fish/guide (and am a outdoor writer for state-wide and regional magazines covering the WBT as well) in south-central. I've been fishing Amistad (Falcon Lake, Choke Canyon and ALL of the Highland Lakes) for upwards of 50 years. One thing I can tell you for a fact - at the time of year you gals invade Del Rio you'll see/have better fishing than you can possibly imagine. As well as some of the best and worst weather. BE PREPARED FOR THE WEATHER!

There will never be a substitute for time on the water in preparation for any tournament, especially on this lake. You need to make time for as many trips down here, allowing for as many days as you can, to run the lake, check out the structure and habitat, etc.

February is pre-spawn and spawning season here. Big fish time. As good good as it gets anywhere. However, be ready to adjust your areas and techniques if, or rather when, a hard "blue norther'" blows in. High winds will blow from the south just before a front hits, then swing out of the north as it pushes through. On such a massive lake that can be the most toughest/dangerous thing you'll encounter. Then, the effects of post-frontal conditions give the bass a terrible case of lockjaw. That would be the time to test the river.

Rather, it was the men who were relegated to the sidelines (prohibited) by the organizers of the first gals circuit: Bass N Gals - now defunct. Women have always been welcome to compete w/the guys. Sugar Sweet, Bass N Gals organizer, had a great idea. It just never got the attention of major national sponsors to keep it going.
Now ESPN have given women their own venue. The popularity is growning by leaps and bounds.

typicaly here in michigan the guys and gals dont mix when it comes to fishing events, except for the kids venues for what ever reason.

I just stated a personal opinion that I think the fishing leages could do better if the sexes would mix or compete at the same events.

I do understand about the girls wanting a day out of the house/work, thats the same for all of us..

I knew about those gals down that way and over in california and we had a group from maryland, I was wondering what ever happened to a couple of them, as for the goup in california, the invited me to go along on their anunal fishing cruse. Wished I could have taken them up on it, Never fished the pacific coast before, I sure they could have tought me a few tec's on rock and shark fishing....

Texas fishing license requirements apply when fishing on the U.S. side of Lake Amistad. When in Mexican waters, you must adhere to Mexican fishing regulations, which differ considerably from Texas State Regulations in terms of size and catch limits. The border with Mexico is indicated by numbered buoys running along the main channel of the Rio Grande. If you plan to fish in Mexico be sure to have a Mexican fishing license and boating permit.[/#174011][/font]
