Fishing in the Ludington area was spotty to slow again this week. Catches of mostly Chinook salmon, with a few steelhead were coming in 70 to 400 feet of water generally south of the harbor. Some Steelhead are being taken with side planers at or near the surface. However, steelhead and Lake Trout have not been a significant part of the catch. A few fishermen found some fish to the north in the bath house area. Downriggers, divers, and lead core rods are all being used for the salmon. The salmon were being caught mostly from 30’ down to 70’, with some taken as deep as 120’ . High and low divers, full lead cores, and downriggers have all been effective. Fish were also being taken on spoons, with chartreuse, green and blue spoons dominant. Various bright colors including orange crush and orange lazer are working on the surface rods. Fishcatcher and Spin Doctor type rotators) with various flies, especially in green and blue colors are also effective.
