Thousands Of Oregon Trout Killed
#1
CENTRAL POINT, OR—Approximately 50,000 trout at Cole Rivers Hatchery near Central Point, Oregon, have died as the result of an untreatable disease, infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus.

Officials with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that the disease was found in eight hatchery raceways in which 390,000 rainbow trout are being raised. The diseased fish had been scheduled for release in 2006 in the state's Rogue and Coos basins, the Rogue River above Lost Creek Dam and the Willamette Valley. The DFW says it doesn't yet know how the kill will impact the state's 2006 trout stocking program.
