Premier 7/6 Sloooooooow
#1
Hey there guys,

Rode the Premier today. Danny skippered, Mikie decked, and Deborah was the cook. Got lots of good anchovies and a few nice smaller sardines. No cuda, few legal calicos, even fewer sandies but rock fish saved the day! One nice-sized ling too.

We gambled and went loooooooong i.e. down to the Newport area. Had a couple of other LB 3/4 day boats making the same fateful decision. Got there and made 3 or 4 stops. Decided it was hopless. Water was a little sloppy and it was overcast and pretty cold especially ..... for July.

On our way back up the coast, the overcast cleared, it warmed up, and the ocean flattened a bit but with a fair current, giving us a nice time whacking the rockfish (salmon grouper, reds, starrys, etc) Again we hit a number of spots with pretty good results. We then came back to the shoe to try for calico, sandbass or a possible cuda bite. Rockfishing in July !!! You do what ya gotta do to get fish in the sack!

Fish were there........ just had lockjaw. Anybody believe in the new moon buisness? I tried the plastics almost excusively but hits were few and far between on the bass! Everyone was doing bait on the dropper loop. Jigs sure didn't seem to do any good on the non-existant cuda or biting bass.

REALLY TOUGH DAY! The rockfish stops saved the day for those wanting to take home a good sack of fish. Nice lingcod won jackpot.

Got back to Pierpoint landing around 4:00. With that .... I'm still goin' this Friday !

Weird how one day is off and the next is game on.........LIKE YESTERDAY's Wide Open Bite!

Great boat, crew, and fishin' buddies.
