Wiper Identification

For those of you (like me) who sometimes have difficulty telling the difference between wipers and white bass, there is an excellent chart on the Kansas Fish & Game website. I hear ya! Filet those puppies up, cut the red meat out, a little flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper and into the hot oil bath. Yum!!

My guess is you were catching largemouth. The smallmouth I have caught in Colorado have all been more brown or bronze than green. With a largemouth, the jaw extends beyond the eye. On a smallmouth it terminates below the eye and does not extend beyond. Here are pictures of both.
