PIERRE, S.D. – Leftover big game licenses for the West River and East River firearms deer hunting seasons are now available at some local license agents to facilitate the sale of the permits.
The Department of Game, Fish and Parks will offer remaining licenses for the two deer seasons by sale over the Internet from the GFP web site. A hunter will purchase the license with a credit card, print off a receipt from the sale, take the receipt to a designated license agent and pick up the big game tags for the permit.
"We are offering this service as a way to encourage the sale of antlerless deer licenses," said Scott Simpson, GFP license supervisor. "It is very important that we get an adequate harvest of does during this hunting season. We want to give hunters extra opportunity to purchase these leftover licenses."
Simpson said that not every license agent in the state would have these permits. "There is a great deal of administrative work involved in making these sales happen. We have to limit the number of license agents that have these permits available to ensure that we have a good handle on the sale of the permits and a good audit of our accounts when the seasons are completed."

They must print this confirmation and present it to one of the designated license agents, along with photo identification, such as a driver’s license or expiration-dated South Dakota identification card.
