General Information Afternoon winds have been high in most of the areas. Plan on fishing early for trout, especially as the high summer temperatures kick into gear.

Angel Lake

Fishing is fair to good. Water level is good. The lake was stocked with 2000 rainbow trout on June 8.

Worms and rainbow PowerBait work well. Small spinners and rooster tails are also favorites in just about any color. Movement seems to mean more than the color.
This is a high elevation lake with night time temperatures in the 30's and 40's, so appropriate clothing and gear is recommended.

Boise/Jakes Reservoir Water level is good, it has been stocked , though carryover is minimal. Water is clear and fishing is fair using bait or artificials. Bass fishing has picked up.

Use the same as if you were at South Fork. Power bait and worms, gold blade spinners and rooster tails. Fly fisherman keep the flies dark and small to medium in size. For bass, the usual rubber gear fished on the bottom works well.

Carlin Pond

Fishing is fair to good, though the pond is extremely weedy. Best fishing appears to be where the creek flows out of the pond.
power bait and worms both on the bottom in the few clear areas and below bobbers near the weeds.

Cave Lake

Fishing is a little slow. Most of the brookies and rainbows are being caught at the east end of the lake.
Try small flies such as adams and griffiths gnats. Small wooly buggers and cave lake specials work as well. As usual, worms and power bait will work. When it gets weedy, float the worms using a bobber, marshmallow or powerbait.
Call 775-289-1655 for more information.

Comins Lake

Fly fishing in the south end has been fair to good. Bait anglers are catching their limits from shore in the north end.

Chironomid (midge) patterns in sizes 12 thru 16 are working for fly fisherman in the south end of the lake. Also try prince/pt/hares ear nymphs. Bait fisherman are using powerbait and worms. Shape the Power Bait into a worm shape and it works better.
Heavy afternoon winds will blow you off the lake, so get here early.

Crittenden Reservoir

Fishing for trout is good. Water levels are in good shape and the water is fairly clear with not much weed growth yet. Bass fishing is picking up, with limits of 10 to 12 inch fish being caught. Trout up to 22 inches have been caught.

Try silver rapalas with black backs and gold bladed rooster tails with brown or black. This is working for both bass and trout. Black and olive leech and woolybuggers are working as well. Bass are caught using same patterns on the bottom near the willows. Bass are also being caught with rubber gear also fished slow and on the bottom. This will be the case until the water warms up. Snail patterns are also working. Damsel fly patterns in the 12 to 14 size should work.
The damselfly hatch has started.

Dorsey Reservoir

The water level is dropping and the lake is starting to weed up. However, fishing is fair to good depending upon the weather.

Mostly bait fisherman here, but wooly buggers, leaches, hares ear and pt nymphs are working.
The lake is expected be dry by middle of July, so please keep all fish caught, up to the legal limit.

Illipah
No report.

Jiggs/Zunino Reservoir
The reservoir is half full. Early morning fishing is recommended.

The usual baits are working well. That means PowerBait and worms.
Water level is holding better than expected.

Mountain Lakes & Streams

No report on fishing conditions, though Island Lake is open and Lamoille Lake is accessible, though you will encounter a fair amount of snow on the way up. Robinson, Hidden, Smith and Greys should all be accessible now.

Use light or ultra-light tackle with small spinners. Favorite fly patterns include most of the popular nymph patterns such as PT, hares ear and prince nymphs, both with and without bead heads and in sizes 10 to 16. Terrestrial patterns work as well. Favorites include Joe's hopper and black ant patterns.

[#000000][/#000000]
Be prepared for quickly changing weather with very cold nights.

Ruby Lake NWR

Bass fishing is still very slow. The opener for bass was extremely slow, though trout fishing was fair in the deeper water at the ski ponds. The north end of the collection ditch is probably the best area to try for trout if you aren't in a boat.Water levels are a little lower than last year at this time. This could be a difficult year to fish the marsh.

Rubber worms in dark colors such as purple, black and rootbeer with a little sparkle work well. Black bear hair streamers work well for both bass and trout. Anything black or olive in color, very buggy and with a bead head. In the evening seems to be the best time and using weedless gear, cast right into the tules and reel it in. Come with plenty of lures, you are sure to lose a few.
Bass fishing generally doesn't get good until late July.

South Fork Reservoir

Trout fishing is fair to good, though there is good size to the fish that are caught. The water is starting to warm up and bass fishing is picking up. Boaters are having better luck than shore anglers.
Trollers are using flashers with a worm trailer fished deep (15 to 35 feet) near the dam with success. Also silver rapalas with blue or black backs. Black with yellow or Olive with yellow spinners do okay. Blood, olive or black wooly buggers, both with and without beadheads on a full sink linework well. The damsel flies are out as well as the midges. A black and white midge pattern size 10 to 12 (the midges here are large) works well. Rooster tails in brown and black are working as well. Bait fisherman are doing okay using worms or PowerBait.

Bass is catch and release only until July 1. Please return the bass as quickly as possible to the water in the location they were caught so as to let them get back onto the nests. There is a 5 fish limit on catfish which is new this summer. With recent weather trends, boating has been shaky in the afternoons due to high winds. Please proceed with caution and wear your PFD. Remember, it pays to wear your life jacket.

Wildhorse Reservoir

The water level is around 45%, but they are letting water out of the dam at a pretty good flow. Water levels are starting to drop. The water is also starting to show algae. The boat ramp and dock are both useable at the state park. Fishing is fair to good. Perch hfishing is slow to fair. To get the larger perch you need to fish deep water. The catfish bite is on.
For catfish, try using shrimp, nightcrawlers, chicken gizzards and stink baits. The bests fishing appears to be early in the morning before dawn.Power bait and worms are working for the shore fisherman. Use green or chartreuse spinners, PowerBait or rapalas. For perch in deeper water, try jigging with a bright colored jig on a small lead head tipped with a piece of worm or night crawler. Trollers should use the old standby of flashers and nightcrawlers.

Vic Churchman of Winnemucca caught a 17 lb. 9 oz. channel cat using shrimp at 4:30, Wednesday morning. Wipers were stocked last week. Bass is catch and release only until July 1. Please return the bass as quickly as possible to the water in the location they were caught so as to let them get back onto the nests. There is a 5 fish limit on catfish which is new this summer. Willow Creek Reservoir
No Fish- Winter Kill 2 years ago with the reservoir being drawn down the last two summers.
Water levels expected to be poor this summer and no intent to stock the lake at this time.

Wilson Reservoir

Fishing is fair to good with shore fisherman having the best luck. Boaters last weekend had poor luck. Water is clear and fishing is good in the lake. Bass fishing this lake is a little difficult, but worth the effort. Fish the willows and weedy areas with weedless rubber gear.

Worms in the spillway and worms and power bait in the resevoir. Rapalas and small spinners in bright green and chartreuse are working for boat anglers. For flyrodders, try large dark patterns such as bead head wooly buggers in black, olive or blood colors.
Water levels expected to be good throughout the summer.
