It depends. If you are a regular on that particular boat or plan to fish it often I would take out what it took to get in and save it for next time. Then the rest goes to the crew which will cover your fish cleaning, tip, and earn you a little good will for next time. There have been a few times I have taken enough to cover my galley tab and tip for the cook. Those were trips where there was a full boat (70+, can you say MOOO!) and everyone was in the game so there was a plenty good tip to leave to the guys on deck after the cook was taken care of. If it was only a one time trip on a boat I would take out enough to cover the galley, fish cleaning, and a very respectable tip and put a little extra into the wallet for wifezilla.

I am all for giving it to the crew. Good boat-good crew they deserve every penny minus my fish cleaning . I haven't gone home with a jackpot yet. And yes when I go back I get even better bait at the bait tanks. Naomi[ Wink

I generally split it 50/50. If the crew has spent the trip fishing I take that into consideration. [ Smile

First, I like to pay-off my galley bill and a 50% cut to the Deck Hands (2) I look for the youngest kid on deck and give him the loot that's left and I really feel good about it if he's sporting crappy tackle. If dad is around I ask him to honor the gift by buying the kid some "good" tackle. This is an experience that happened to me when a good guy passed on the jackpot and I got rid of my outdated, knuckle buster, Penn Ocean City. It might sound weird but I have done it about four times. George. I read some great responses to Jackpot Etiquette on the Allcoast Message boards. It still is an incredible debate without clear definition. My personal opinion is this: Dead Heads (a person that got to ride for free) give up the entire Jackpot to the crew, pay for their galley tab and tip the cook accordingly. Fish cleaning should be comped by the crew. On a paid ticket to ride. I believe that the entire pot should be given to the crew. In return, the crew would clean your fish for free and give you atleast one or more passes to ride depending on the amount of the jackpot and the cost of the trip. . If your fishing the Polaris, Star, Supreme, Excel, 105, Rooster and some of the other Long Range boats a free ticket is probably a bit much, but a percentage discount for your next trip would be appropriate. It is fairly common on most boats that the tips are pooled. Some crew members work harder and service clients better than others, no doubt. Captains and crews spend a lot of time on the water which can add an incredible amount of fatigue and at times irritability. I know that when I get off an overnighter, I am burnt, all I can think about is my bed and the remote, the crewz are going back out to do it again whether the fishing is good or bad....... It's a tough job. The crews Depend on the tips and the fact that the fish bite in order to make a living.
