Carlin Pond

Fishing is fair. Carlin has been stocked with 1000 fish and there have been some carryover fish from last fall.
power bait and worms
The parking area gate is locked when conditions are muddy.

Cave Lake

Water is open. Fishing is fair.

Try small flies such as adams and griffiths gnats. Small wooly buggers and cave lake specials work as well..
Call before you head here. 775-289-1655 775-777-2305

Comins Lake

Fly fishing in the south end has been fair to good. Bait fishing in the north end is only fair.

Chironomid (midge) patterns in sizes 12 thru 16 are working for fly fisherman in the south end of the lake. Also try prince/pt/hares ear nymphs. Bait fisherman are using powerbait and worms.
Call before you head here. 775-289-1655 775-777-2305

Crittenden Lake

Fishing for trout is good. Water levels are in good shape and the water is fairly clear with not much weed growth yet.
Try silver rapalas with black backs and gold bladed rooster tails with brown or black. Black and olive leech and woolybuggers are working well. Some days a bead-head PT nymph seems to work.
Artificial lures and flies only. No natural baits allowed. The road is very rough, but is fairly dry.

Dorsey Reservoir

Water level is good and fishing has been fair to good.
Mostly bait fisherman here, but wooly buggers, leaches, hares ear and pt nymphs are working.
With recent rains, be careful going in. 4-Wheel drive is recommended after rains.

Jiggs/Zunino Reservoir
For the first time in 3 years, Jiggs is holding water. The lake is approximately 1/3 full and it has been stocked with 500 fish. Plans are to stock it with 500 more soon.
No report on what is working.
Water level is not expected to hold through the summer, so keep all the fish you catch up to the legal limit.

Illipah
Fishing conditions here are good, with carryover fish in the 13 to 16 inch class being caught. Illipah currently is receiving little or no pressure

Small midge patterns size 12 to 18.

Mountain Lakes & Streams

Mountain lakes in the Rubies and East Humboldt's are closed due to snow. Lower elevation streams are full and fishing is difficult. Tabor Creek north of Wells may be one possibility.

[#000000][/#000000] May not open until late June early July due to snow pack. Mountain streams at lower elevations become more fishable after the snow melt slows down in June or early July.

Ruby Lake NWR

The best fishing is in the collection ditch for brood trout. Fishing the ditch downstream from the hatchery has been fair to good. Large rainbows have been caught off of the dock at the main boat landing. These are spawners cruising the area, and should continue to be in the area into the first week of May.
Anything black or olive in color, very buggy and with a bead head. Collection ditch is artificial flies and lures only. Brood fish have been stocked in the collection ditch in the 3 to 6 lb. range. Shore fishing only until July 1st. Float tubes are allowed off of the dock at the main boat landing out to the sign. Call the refuge at 775-779-2237 for more information.

South Fork Reservoir

Bait fishing is slow, lures trolled behind boats and fly fisherman are having some success both with trout and bass. Bass fishing is slow as water temp is still fairly cool.
Trollers are using flashers with a worm trailer with some success. Also silver rapalas with blue or black backs. Black with yellow or Olive with yellow spinners do okay. Blood, olive or black wooly buggers, both with and without beadheads work well. Rooster tails in brown and black are working as well. Bass is catch and release only until July 1. With recent weather trends, boating has been shaky due to high winds. Please proceed with caution and wear your PFD.

Wildhorse Reservoir

Water level is up, but still below the boat ramp, though boats may be launched at the state park boat ramp if you are careful. The dock is in the water. Fishing is fair. Perch have spawned and the perch fishing is slow and will probably not pick up until May.
No report on what is working.
Will receive a complement of catfish and wipers this summer in addition to the normal stocking of trout. Water level and snow runoff is still questionable as to how full the lake will get this summer.

Wilson Reservoir

Water is Open. 9,000 fish stocked on March 29. Water is turbid and spilling. Fishing is fair. Fishing below the spillway is picking up.
Try large dark dark patterns such as bead head wooly buggers in black, olive or blood colors. Boaters appear to be doing better than shore fisherman when they can get on the water.
Early spring is generally good for spawning sized fish. Good water conditions last summer, should mean good fishing this year for both bass and trout.
