See the ice conditions for South Fork as an example. This time of year with the longer warmer days, the ice often is slushy on top and so appropriate boots are recommended. Also with the melting snow, road conditions can be hazardous in the backcountry and four wheel drive, chains, shovel and appropriate survival gear are a must.[/#000000]
[#000000]

Road is closed for the winter. [#000000]Again the ice conditions here are good with very thick solid ice. Most trout being caught are in 10 to 12 inch range and as with most areas the fishing is hit or miss with one day being good and the next just fair. [#000000]Ice is the thickest here in years approaching 20 to 24 inches in thickness according to Chris Crookshanks, the biologist for this water. Angling through the ice has been fair to good depending upon the day. Fish up to three and four pounds are being caught through the ice using power bait and worms.[/#000000]
[#000000]

The road here is still frozen in the mornings and slightly muddy in the afternoons. The ice is still 13 inches thick and fish to 18 inches are being caught. No natural baits allowed here. Artificial flies, lures and jigs only.
[/#000000]

Access to the mountain lakes is shut down due to snow. There are avalanche warnings at the higher elevations.

[/#000000]

Artificial lures and flies only in the collection ditch. 570 Brood fish up to 9 pounds have been stocked in the collection ditch and fishing here has been fair with one angler complaining that he only caught one seven pound fish. Go figure. The water is muddy and cold so use large, dark lures and flies fished slowly. The ice on the marsh is 18 inches thick where there aren’t springs to warm the water. However, with the low water conditions, there isn’t much water under the ice and fishing through the ice has been poor. Call ahead to check the status of the roads before venturing here. Ice conditions have changed dramatically in the last week. While the thickness ranged from 10 to 16 inches last Sunday, on Friday, Feb. 27, the ice was only 7 to 12 inches this week. There were also some open holes in the ice near the dam so be careful in that area. While fishing has been slow, those trout caught have ranged from 14 to 22 inches and in good condition. Favorite bait is appears to be power bait, though some are being caught on worms. The two favorite areas are off of jet ski beach and by the state park boat ramp.

The water levels are extremely low and the ice conditions are still good here with the ice still around 20 inches thick. Perch fishing is just fair with four inch perch being the average size. It is illegal to just leave the small fish on the ice as they are a protected game fish. This is wanton waste. Also, by doing so, the fishing two years from now may not be as good as it could be. Trout fishing is fair to good with the average fish being between 14 and 16 inches..
[#990033]WILSON RESERVOIR[/#990033]
It has been warmer here all winter and ice conditions have not always been favorable. That being said, the ice was measured at around 10 inches this week. No report on fishing conditions. Four wheel drive is recommended as the road gets extremely muddy this time of year.
