BEAR LAKE FISHING REPORT -Updated Wednesday, 2/4/2004.
Bear Lake is totally ice covered and the ice is anywhere from 8-10" thick. There is approximately 12" of snow around the shoreline and about 2" of new snow on top the ice. There have been snowmobiles and 4-wheelers on the ice, but please use caution since there are many springs in Bear Lake that can create thin spots and even open holes.
The cisco run is over. Ice fishermen are now concentrating on whitefish and trout. Whitefish fishing has been good to excellent over weed beds on both the east and west sides of the lake. Try fishing in 15-25 feet of water using small spoons, castmasters, or Swedish pimples tipped with waxworms or salmon eggs. If you don't catch fish within a few minutes, then you should move until you find some active fish. Fishing pressure for trout has been very light. There have been some reports of nice sized fish being taken off the pump house on the east side of the lake. Try fishing in depths from 30-80 feet on bottom with tube jigs tipped with cisco. Also, try off 1st and 2nd points in 80-120 feet of water. Some trout are also being taken off Cisco Beach using the same techniques.
