First few weeks back in Idaho... - sdhuntandfish - 09-29-2016

Since moving back to Boise a few weeks back, I've have the chance to get out 3 weekends now. 2 were spent on Cascade fishing perch and trout and last weekend was spent out in Oregon on the Columbia River chasing my beloved eyeballs. Trolling for trout has been lights out on Cascade with solid numbers of 16-22" fish, especially from sunrise until about 11 am. Perch have been good too, you just have to spend some time searching with your electronics. Side imaging is an invaluable tool for searching out schools of active perch. Once you find them, they'll eat for sure.

The Columbia is now my favorite body of water in the west. I can't wait to go back. My first trip ever on that body of water, I was able to boat about 30 walleyes with the largest at 30". She was put back to spawn again.

Anyway, if there are any other walleye people hiding in the shadows, shoot me a message. Would be more than happy to make some room in my Ranger. Here are a few pics...

Great looking fish and pictures! .so I am in the market for a new sonar unit and I have been debating over getting the upgraded models that include down imaging and side imaging.. side imaging seems like it could be a great searching tool.. Anyhow, I was just wondering on some of your thoughts and or reccomedations for a finder... I have been looking at the humminbird helix 5 units but am open to any brand or model.

On my console, I have a Humminbird 999 flush mounted with a Helix 9 next to it. I can run SI, DI, 2D, and Lakemaster mapping all at the same or any combination on the above. That would be difficult to do on one screen. The Helix units are great, btw. I also have a Helix 5 mounted to my atv.

Great looking eyes. Where were you on the Columbia?

I left Pendleton in 2008 and am currently in Idaho Falls. I miss the walleye fishing around Hermiston below McNary dam.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Those are great walleye btw.. that is a fish that is still on my bucket list. I may have to look into fishing the Columbia.

All nice fish Andy, but that perch has to be the cake and the ice cream. PIG just doesn't quite describe it.

The Big C is my favorite water also. I can be chasing eyes, bright salmon, fat smallies and keeper sturgeon in 4 hours.
