850+ GPS fishing numbers for southern California on E-bay - JapanRon - 01-23-2004
Hey there guys,
Check it out! There is a guy on E-bay selling 850+ GPS saltwater numbers for fishing spots in the southern California area. Any guess on how many of those spots are the party boats standard spots.
PBer's might just like to get a hold of some of those numbers. Any skippers feeling shock and awe?

That's alot of spots to hold in memory. Do they also give species and baits with those #s? That would make it worth the while.

For a lousy $20 I would gamble that even 1% of the spots were great IF I was a PBer! The yakers could use the numbers too I guess. They've got a picture of one of the sections of the map with numbers.
The real deal is that it takes a skillful captain to use those numbers even if they were based on the military quality GPS receivers which are better than the civilian, as you well know!

There is quite a difference. I am just barely getting the hang of my handheld. It is alot of fun though. I also got into that geocaching. It is kind of like a treasure hunt.

The 'catching' thing must be where you are given some general co-ordinates and you have to go search around to find it and the container which marks the spot. When you do, you have to think up a place to hide the thing for others.
I noticed that the GPS my buddy had was also a phone and a PDA for communication with his computer. Even the deckhand was asking him for GPS numbers!! ha ha ha

JapanRon: There are a couple of publications desplaying numbers for our local waters. One is one where you have to convert minutes into seconds to get true GPS numbers. The other does it all. I haven't seen the Ebay stuff. I am currently developing a chart of the Horseshoe and all its' GPS numbers for my own use. It is not for public distribution. If you ever need a number hit me with a private message. The true answer to using GPS is the skippers ability to position his boat over the rock. This can be critical to 10 feet and most cannot do it or don't know how.

Minutes into seconds sounds like the skippe has to be good with his angles and trig. I must be a good challenge now for them. But somehow, some of them manage to do it.

Always nice to hear from ya. I saw that picture in the press telegram with you, Jed, and halibut and recognize the buildings in the background. The buildings look a lot bigger in a float tube! ha ha
A book was recently put out with a whole bunch of GPS numbers and infomercialized on the Sat/Sun Fishing Radio shows.
As we know, there are a couple of websites that have a good number of GPS numbers.

Hi Ron The name of one of those books is "It's a keeper" A GPS fish finding guide of Southern California. It's 90 pages of GPS numbers from Point Conception to the Mexican Border including the Islands, Banks and Bays. The Authors Max Krisher and Al Schneider love to fish the Halibut.
I don't remember what I payed for the book but well worth it
