24V marine Battery? - smittyts - 07-02-2015
I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a 24 volt deep cycle marine battery. I recently purchased a trolling motor with high lb thrust and it requires a 24 volt battery. I have been having a hard time finding one anywhere. I would like to avoid having to connect 2 12 volts in series.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000]There are actually lots of sources for 24V batteries found on the Net. However, almost all are for electric bikes, wheelchairs, etc., and none are suitable for the use you intend. You need way more current capability than what they offer and the ONLY way you are going to get that is with two 12V Marine batteries. I would recommend 2 of the Cabela's brand AGMs as the best deal going right now. Two Gp 24s give you a Reserve Capacity (RC) of 240 ah and two Gp 30s give you an RC of 380 ah. You will not find a 24v battery that comes anywhere close to those figures for RC. And you will absolutely need that RC if you want that electric motor to run for more than an hour or two.[/#800000][/font]

If this for your canoe, I suggest you sell the 24V and start over with a 12 volt trolling motor.

As mentioned, you're better off using two 12 volt batteries. Cabelas has some good instructions on how to do this.

If you happened to find one and it had the capacity to run a trolling motor for several hours, I doubt that you could lift it.

I and many guys on here run 24v bowmounts.
You connect two 12V deep cycle batteries in series to make the 24Volts you need for your motor. Go with the cabelas AGM battery if they are on sale you can't beat them. I would also recommend you buy a two bank charger unless you want to connect the charger to your batteries every time.
If you need help connecting them there is plenty of info on the minkotta website and elsewhere on the web.

and two12 V batterys hook them up Pos to neg so you get 24Volts

I have 4 batters I don't like running out of battery.
wall mart has some for $100 not as good as the ones they are telling you about but they work ok

Don't quit that part time job before you also earn the $400 to $500 to purchase the special charger.[cool]
