New to Vegas, Fr: Louisiana - BayouBoy17 - 07-02-2014
New here to Vegas, originally from Louisiana so fishing was easy there. Out of my comfort zone here so looking for good fishing and/or bowfishing around the Las Vegas area. Anyone ever need someone to tag along to fish im always down for the ride!
I do a lot of brim, catfish, bass, and big red fishing back home whether a Jon boat, Bass boat, kayak, or two man boat. A lot of bayous, lakes, rivers where im from.
Also love to do some Bowfishing for Reds, Catfish, and Alligator Gar.

I'm new to fishing, but I'm in Vegas, and I've gone just about everywhere.
Pond fishing is tough this time of year. If you go, Lorenzi, Sunset, and Floyd Lamb are the only ponds I've caught from (with considerable amounts of time spent at each). There's only cats in there now, and they're extremely sparse. You can call the Lake Mead Hatchery line for stocking dates but they don't update that line very often.
Honestly it's not really worth your time at the ponds, unless you're just looking to kill time.
I go to Sand Hollow UT or Quail Creek Lake, UT. Both are under a 2 hour drive from Vegas. I haven't left either Lake with less than two largemouth. Even in 100+ temps.
You can also go south.. Government Wash @ Lake Mead is about a 45 minute drive. Haven't had much success out of Lake Mead this season though.

Having lived in Nevada most my life the moving to Texas...Nevada is a tough place to be a fisherman.
There is some fishing to be had, but man, its going to be culture shock in alot of ways.
Ive been fishing east texas and into LA alot... cant compare it to Nevada. Nothing you did out here will work.
Read up and good luck! I will go catch some reds for you! One good thing, you can swim anywhere in nevada, no cottonmouths or gators to look out for!

Yeah it was completely different experience here for me. Went to Lake Mead on the Hobie Kayak and the water and wind was so rough I didn't last an hour on the water.. Tried to bank fish but no luck there. Not use to this clear deep water type of fishing. I like to go after bass with a baby brush hog under an old cypress tree or something so I was completely lost trying to fish out here. I need to hook up with someone from here with a boat who can show me the ropes around here!
Goodluck with the reds too! I'll be down in Venice, La come October to do a little bowfishing. Can't wait to get back to my comfort zone!

Hey guys, new to this forum and in same boat as Bayouboy. Coming from the panhandle (Destin) area and having to convert to freshwater the past few yrs being stationed in California and now Las Vegas. Was pretty proficient at sight fishing for pomps and loved targeting reds and specks in the clear saltwater. I've only been here for about a month and still getting settled in.
Good thing here is the base rents 17ft bass trackers w/ fish finder for a VERY reasonable rate. Bad thing is I was never much into targeting bass from a boat in a HUGE lake such as Mead. Would love to target stripes, but have read trolling is the best option, which I have little experience with.
So, long story short, would be nice to hook up with someone knowledgeable in targeting stripers at the lake or hooking up to target bucket mouths.
I'm a fairly avid angler with plenty of nice gear for panhandle type fishing and some nearshore combos that should handle a lake mead striper.
May have to wait a couple more months for the weather to cool down and fishing to heat up though. Feel free to PM me. Lets get out there fellas!

stripers are in season now, just look for the fish going nuts at the surface first light and last light of the day. throw top water at them. usually a crowd of boats in the vegas wash with the same idea, just watch for when they all start moving to one spot, then you know what to look for.
