Southern California Saltwater Report 10/17-22 - JapanRon - 10-17-2003 Southern California Saltwater Report for October 10/17-22 starts tonight. Whoops I lost a day there somewhere Sorry. The fact is that I'm making a fishing diary for a full year so that an entire year of fishing in the LA area can be reviewed with actual daily info. San Diego 1/2 day boats yessssssss 1/2 boats are killing the yellows, 15, 18, 20 anglers are catching 100+ yellows each boat!!!!! Oh Man Oh Man! I take back everything I said about San Diego being slow! It's the speed of light down there right now. What a week-end it's gonna be for them! Nice sardines and anchovies are avaliable for the sporties with no new of squid this week. Way Up North- Avila and Monterey Rockfish, Red Snappers and some Whitefish. Up North- Channel Islands Rockfish, Red Snappers, Whitefish, and some Calicos. LA Area- Catalina Island I haven't heard of many boats venturing out but with the bite slowing down San Onofre way maybe some 3/4 day boats will try again. Further South- San Clemente Sorry I have little info on the island but I know the South Coast 6 packs hit it fairly often. San Diego- Local and Offshore Yellows, Yellows, Yellows for the 1/2 and 3/4 day boats! LA Local Yellows slowed down for the guys going on the southern cruise. ha ha SMB are looking at Sculpin, Whitefish while the guys south of Rocky Point are scratching for both bottom fish, barracuda, bonito, and lings. Blue Horizon with 14 anglers get 70 yellowtail, 6 Yellowfin, and 75 Skipjack. Way Up North- Avila and Monterey Rockfish. Up North- Channel Islands Lots of Rockfish and a mixed bag of other fish. LA Area- Catalina Island Not many 3/4 days venturing out. Further South- San Clemente There are some boats that go to the island on the week-end but the info is scarce. San Diego- Local and Offshore Yellowtail, Yellowfin and Skipjack are now filling the SD bags. LA Local SMB has lots of sculpin and rockfish. South of Rocky Point there are calicos, lots of bonito, rockfish, lings, sculpin and a few yellowtail. Yellows are still biting a bit south of dana wharf's home grounds. Up North- Channel Islands Rockfish and a few other species. LA Area- Catalina Island Water clearing but still cold. Little action. Further South- San Clemente Not much different than Catalina San Diego- Local and Offshore Both Local and Offshore are doing very well from Oceanside to SD. Yellowtail counts on the 3/4's (some counts over 100 with less than 20 anglers)very good. BEST ITS BEEN ALL YEAR AND BETTER THAN I'VE SEEN IT IN THE LA LOCAL AREA THIS YEAR!!!! Way Up North- Avila and Monterey Rockfish. Up North- Channel Islands Rockfish, Whitefish and various other species. LA Area- Catalina Island Water is clearing and warming to a certian degree with sculpin, bass and bonito doing pretty good. Further South- San Clemente I don't have much info. Sorry. San Diego- Local and Offshore Excellent fishing for yellows, yellowfin and skipjack locally with the offshore guys doing about the same. The last few days is the best it's been in SD and better than any local LA days!!!! Yeeeehaaaa Unfortunatley, we won't be going to yellowtail city more than likely! San Diego is good, good, and good.. Blue Horizon for 22 got 49 yellows and 30 skippies. Mission Belle and a few other 3/4 days did even better. Way Up North- Avila and Monterey Rockfish. Up North- Channel Island Rockfish and other mixed bag including bonito. LA Area- Catalina Island Water Clearing and surely warming. Further South- San Clemente Not much new from me sorry. San Diego- Local and Offshore Local is still outstanding but some areas are starting to taper off. Still Yellows, Yellowfin and skippies. LA Local Rockfish, Sculpin for SMB with the same plus sandies, calicos and a few yellows also caught from Rocky Point to Newport. JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Southern California Saltwater Report 10/17-22 - JapanRon - 10-23-2003 Southern California Saltwater Report for October 22, 2003 (Wednesday) Yellowtail bite slowing. Way Up North- Avila and Monterey Rockfish Up North- Channel Islands Rockfish and mixed bag of other various species. LA Area- Catalina Island Not many burning the fuel to fish calicos and bonito. Further South- San Clemente Week-end trip go for sure. San Diego- Local and Offshore Although the local yellowtail bite has slowed, certian landings still do well (seaforth). Offshore still offers a decent bite on the multi-day trips for Yellows-Yellowfin-Skipjack. JapanRon [signature] |
