Squid for bait - NVFishin - 06-09-2011 Hello! Haven't posted in a long time, but wanted to share last weeks catch on squid. Got to 33 hole on Thursday, kind of late. Couldn't get anything to bite, until I switched from anchovies to cut squid strips. Caught 3 beautiful cats, all between 2-3 pounds. Each hit a strip of squid about an inch long. Also caught a very small smallmouth, threw it back. Didn't take the camera, will take the camera tomorrow. So, if all else fails, try squid strips. I get my squid at Vons - packaged as Calamari....it's cheaper than purchasing it as bait. It freezes and thaws over and over, lasts for months! Have a great weekend! But don't forget the old adage - if you want big fish, use big baits. I was buying 2 foot long jumbo squid from Seafood City and cutting them up into 3" x 5" triangle strips. Freeze-em on a cookie sheet, then toss em in a ziplock. Killer for bigger fish [signature] Re: [TheWhizzle] Squid for bait - NVFishin - 06-09-2011 I honestly never thought of using large strips.....sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the tip! I'll check out Seafood City too, it's close by. [signature] |
