edgy .... set your drag right and you won't ever break a pole...

You are cool but have alot to learn.

if your drag was set right no way a fish would break your pole... not gonna happen.

just sayin'.

Next time save your money and get one with a warranty. Shimano comes to mind. Until then, don't pull your rod up in the air when snagged. Hold it out straight so no tension is on the rod and pull back to snap line. Push comes to shove, cut the line. A lot cheaper than buying a new rod. Good one that is.

Yea, i know for sure it wasn't a fish that snapped it. It felt like it for a second but yea i am lowering my drag on my new spinning reel that i am getting it is medium action, gonna be more careful, not aggressive. so should i have the drag set that when i set the hook i hear that buzzing sound?

Set it enough so you have resistance when you pull on the line. You can always tighten it down if needed for a big fish.

Thats why I buy stuff with a lifetime waranty, yeah it cost alot more but any problems and its taken care of. If you wanna go cheap get an ugly stick but Im a St. Croix man myself but youll spent bout $100 or more on just a rod.

NO you can do it ,just be more carefull.light action is good ,point the rod to the fish, keep the good line you used, and try again, its more challenging this way.look at this 4lber I got on this twig rod pic86,I broke one just bending it a little, plus its a telescopic rod. They offer rewards any fish over 5lb,or 1000 bucks for any record of any species.100bucks for 5lb fish.Damn I tried.broke one on a big bass at glades.Pen rod.Get in a boat to get around all these stumps or excuses, sorry to be so hard on you ,just tryng to influence your life ,this bass nearly got me around a floating bouy.its all part of the fun.I recently switched to light action.,got a tica 500,and had an ll,bean, but it went overboard[frown]I jumped for it ,I tried but there were alligators .Catching some 5lb peacockbass is just crazy, sometimes use leader.one 5lber,with no leader on live bait,4lb test firelinepic 37 is one I broke on landing,I held rod by the middle, bent to much, plus strong fish.I use cheap rods cause they are going to break anyway,I usually add an extension to the handle, and save the backhalf of the rod, usually I just change out the first half, with the tip side. Here they were 6.99,now went up to$ 7.99 durango shakespere. So, you I can do it! ,even pulled up a 2lb porgy from 100feet of water.

pic 51 is a 5 lb fish on 4lb fireline,I normally fight them pound per pound but this guy even had a weight advantage on me.even my snoopy rod can handle big fish, you must be doing something wrong,I even caught a 13lb carp with scooby.Take your time, get in a boat and follow him around the stumps if you have to,but don't give up on light action rods, its more sportmanlike, plus you give the fish a chance to getaway, its all about the battle, thats what I enjoy most,I even give them a slight advantage sometimes.I could of landed a 6 lber, but kept tryng, with my pen rod, lost him,I was going for a prize they advertise for the pen rod ,anyfish over 5lb.100,or 200 dollar prize, and 2000,for any record species. If you want to keep fish to eat I understand, use heavytackle, but for good kicks, lightaction is the way to go,I fished med, action most my life, lighter action is so much fun, good for adrenaline junkies, make sure your doctor says its ok on your heart first, these light action rods are not for the week. How bout these icefishermen and their light tackle, they land big fish too,I guess we all can't be winners. .....The weaker your rod the stronger it makes you....Paulpro....[Image: angry.gif]Can anyone help out this man by posting some nice bass on light action,he needs all the help he can get[Image: happy.gif]man, your just going to spend more money.Rods are allways going to break, one way or another.

Re: [Edgy779] Ugh! Pole Snapped!!! - fsh4fun05 - 06-23-2011

I use Powell rods, I have an account with them and I get a discount so I'm biased. Anywho-one piece rods, graphite blanks, Fuji eyes, made in AMERICA! Lifetime warranty! Granted they retail for up to $169.99 but you get what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, I started with a cheap rod that I could afford and it's taken a long time to get where I'm at today but I've lived and learned about the right rod, reel and line.
Every rod has it's place, some of mine I use for different baits but I have cranks, weighted plastics, weightless plastics (senkos), jigs and topwater rods....I'm sure I'm missing something.
The biggest difference I've noticed in the price of rods is the sensitivity and the backbone of the rod. A 'whippy' rod is not going to get the job done. I love fighting fish but I love getting them to the boat/kickboat/shore for a picture even better. I use rods that I can control the fish to do what I want, get it to me, in the boat, weigh, measure, picture, release. I was using one of my Powell 703 rods in my kick boat tonight fishing reeds and heavy grass.
I was questioning my line when one bass dove straight into the grass but the backbone of my rod pulled it out and I was able to land it.
No need to explain: you get what you pay for.

Powell Rods are awesome, i use them as well. I agree with the sensitivity for sure. And when you are fishing weightless senkos wacky style in the dog days of summer you will find out very quick why sensitivity is so important. That time of year bass are known to suck your bait in and just sit there, happens to me all the time. You would never ever feel that with a cheaper rod until it was too late and the fish spits the bait. And with that being said you will hook up with more fish.

Re: [gdn443] Ugh! Pole Snapped!!! - Paulpro - 06-28-2011

Yea,thats good ,I sometimes tie line to a chair and pull up on it couple of times and adjust drag from there, just to get an idea of the drag I want to apply, like they say ,use your hand on reel if needed, but keep rod pointed at fish,to keep it from bending to much. you saw my pen rod...that s--t is crazy..

Re: [Paulpro] Ugh! Pole Snapped!!! - fsh4fun05 - 06-30-2011

I'm sorry but I can't disagree more about pointing the rod at the fish. If you are not fishing with the right gear than you are doing more harm to the fish if you plan on releasing it. With the right rod you can guide the fish to the boat and then do whatever you want with it. Fishing with underpowered rods and expecting the line to do the work is...well, I just don't agree. That's just my two cents. Sure it can be done but why? If you want a better fight then grab a fly rod, even then you would never point it at the fish. Rods are designed to accommodate the weight of the fish you are catching, baits you are using, line test, etc. I'm all about the fight but getting it back in the water safely is important also.
I won't sell a rod that can't handle the fight of a bass. If your fishing with a rod that can't handle a bass I don't see the sport in it. If you are afraid of your rod bending too much than you are not fishing with the right rod. I would be more than happy to give you a discount on a Powell rod, it would be worth it to me for you to see the difference. I apologize for venting.

Re: [fsh4fun05] Ugh! Pole Snapped!!! - bigpikeguy - 06-30-2011

I totally Agree with fsh4fun05. Al you are doing with a small light rod is getting the fish extremely exhausted. And alot of the time when fish get the wore out they end up dead a few hours after you release them. I say just get the right equipment for the job. And if you need to point your rod at the fish so it dont bend your pole that should tell you right there that you are not using the right equipment.

Thats cool I know what you mean,It also depends were your fishing, in the glades we used 20lb.power pro for a while,on worm rod now we use 15lb,also for lures smaller lures, 10lb.I like 6lb,suffix,for lizzards or curl tail worms, plus sometimes I use a 20lb leader for worms. From my boat in open water I go light action 6lb.on a 4 to 6lb rod,,or 4 to 10,or,6 to 12....The first month this year I had a 5lb take my line nearly to the bottom of the lake, almost 50feet,I thought it was a big peacockbass, got him on a small tilapia.this pic is my 4to 6lb rod,,5lb bass,I,had 6lb suffixbraid,I remember this day like yesterday,I enjoy the long fights on light action, plus I use a small hook, a baitholder hook size 6,same I use for carp....I caught a bass today.... but it almost feels like yesterday....that bass seems so far away...like yesterday........Paulpro McCartney

Re: [fsh4fun05] Ugh! Pole Snapped!!! - Edgy779 - 07-27-2011

Well i have gotten a new medium action spinning rod. And even with the light action pole after i would catch the fish i would just throw is back and forget about it. I hold it on the bank and let it get its strength back. I am a better fisher now and have landed huge fish on this new rod that swim off now problem. I rarely fish on a boat. Caught a 7-10lb'er a few days back i didnt have the scale.
