Hole 33 - REAL_RAT_FINK - 04-17-2011 Blanked for the third time at hole 33. Although, I did see an unusual sight. I saw what must have been 20 - 24" rainbows cruising the shore line. There was about 10 of them that kept cruising real close to me. I thought all of the rainbows were eaten up? I don't think I was mistaken. Anyone familiar with this? They certainly weren't hungry. [fishin] i've heard stories of monster trout in the depths of mead, old school stockers that survived the striper attacks. never know whats in the depths. I personally never saw any hatchery pets that far away from stocking zones but I have run into a few 33 holers that swore up and down they have caught rainbows there...... when asked for proof there was always a excuse. On the other hand fishing the hole can be tuff i've been there plenty of times try 10 trips in a row with nothing. Heres two tips I live by when shore fishing and works for me. 1 When casting lures cover water, I hike far then work the whole shoreline on my way back. 2 When bait fishing same principle cover water, if you don't feel nibbles after 20 mins move. I was at the scenic overlook at hole 33, the one that is farthest south (closest to boulder city). Take a 5 minute hike toward the lake and hit the cove that is just south of the trail. Scale the southside of the cliff along the water and I bet they are still there. I kid you not, 20-24" rainbows. Would love to see some big rainbows come out of Mead. They weren't interested in my lures, live bait may have better affect. Thanks for the tips 4 lb, I think your right. I need to cover more water. I think maybe if a rainbow got to 10lbs he could pull it off. [signature] Re: [vegaskid] Hole 33 - vegaskid - 04-18-2011 maybe not even that big, I mean even a 5-7lb rainbow would be a mouthful for even the biggest stripers. Who knows. I wish they would have a underwater documentary about the lakes wildlife.
