well first time out today and decided to give hole 33 a try. i ended up doing some shore fishing cuz all i had was my small car but got skunked. i think i will have better luck with my yak. well i got to practice some casting at least. turns out i could use a practice to used to the fly rod with no backlashing lol. well if anyone has any more tips for shore fishing besides what was posted a while back feel free to share if not see yall next sat. and ill pick ur brains then.

Sounds to me like he is used to a fly rod and is backlashing his conventional reel. I have been going through certain learning pains with my bait caster so I sympathize totally.
Pm me if ya want to put together a fly trip with me. Once steady boils start happening we can have a blast with the fly rods. That's assuming the fish co operate.

Stop the backslashes or at least learn how to minimize the birds nest. First, peel off about 60 yards of line. Then put some clear tap on the spool, reel up the line.
The next step is to adjust the spool tension knob on side of the reel. Looks like a cap and is next to the star drag. Now push the release, the lure should fall at a medium speed, not to fast and faster than molasses.
With the tape under 60 yards of line, if you backlash it doesn't go very deep and you can pick it out easier.
Once you have mastered this type of fishing you can remove the tape. Also works on very windy days.

ya sorry about that sil240sxrwd i forgot a word in there so it made it a bit confusing.
i set the line up to where when i release the break my bait would just slowly drop. im assuming it wasn't to slow. should i be doing that each time i change bait depending on wait? my first cast was was the worst one so i guess thats good. i ended up having to pull and cut about 20 feet off after that i had a few times where i would have to pull a little line out and that would get rid of the nest i created. i had not hurt of the tape idea but that makes total sense ill be sure to do to save me the headache. i have the little nob opposite the reel to 7, is that just an automatic brake for the spool while casting or what exactly is that used for? thanks for the post guys. every little bit helps. ill get there lol

Baitcasters can be tricky. I had a hard time when I made the switch, but practice and some good advice go a long way. We can do a mini baitcaster seminar at the trash pickup.
