Hot Water Forces Location Change For Idahos Take Me Fishing Trailer - FishNews - 01-16-2011 REXBURG- The "Take Me Fishing Trailer" has been one of the Idaho Department of Fish & Game's (IDFG) most successful new program innovations in recent years. The concept is that wherever one of the trailers show up, free fishing and fun ensue for this who stop by. Dates and locations for the trailers have been advertised statewide and tens of thousands of bookmark/calendars were given out to Idaho schoolchildren before they headed home for the summer. Unfortunately, warm weather conditions at the start of August drove up water temperatures at one eastern Idaho fishing hole, forcing IDFG to make a last minute schedule change. The fishing trailer will not be going to the Rexburg City Ponds on Saturday, August 21. Instead the trailer and helpers will be heading to the Trail Creek Kids Pond outside of Victor on that day. According to Regional Conservation Educator Gregg Losinski, "The purpose of the trailer is create a Free Fishing Day event wherever it appears!" The trailer is stocked with plenty of poles and tackle so that families interested in learning to fish just need to show up. According to Losinski, "Once people register we outfit them for a day of fun. We help them rig their poles, bait their hooks, and even teach them the basics of fishing." If newcomers catch fish that they would like to take home and eat, then IDFG will even teach them how to clean a fish. The trailer is stocked with everything , even worms and bobbers, that is needed to get someone started along the path of a lifetime of piscatorial bliss. To make sure that the day is a success the IDFG hatchery in Ashton will be stocking 450 catchable trout to the pond just a few days before the event that starts at 9 AM on Saturday, August 21 and runs until 1 PM. Since children under 14 never need a license, this program is especially aimed at allowing adults and families to get a start at fishing without incurring any costs. According to Losinski, "We've had some families schedule their summer outings around the trailer schedule and have had a great time following it from fishing hole to fishing hole."
