removing reel seat ? - peter805 - 11-22-2009

Did anyone ever removed reel seat out of a fly rod?
I'm sure that there must be a way of doing that. Some
kind "surgical " removal.
Very carefully cut the hardware in half , cut the cork without getting into the blank.........................
There just must be a way.[Smile]

Boiling water hopefully. The Browning rod I just bought, The cork split in half. So I too have to try to get the reel seat off.
Have been lucky in the past with boiling water.
Do not cut or pry.

The reason why is because I found some really
nice ones and I sure would like to put some
on my rod or rods.[Wink]
Just for personal satisfaction.

Oh cool, thank you DR. I will try that boiling water and
if that does not work then I will try your suggestion.

That is cool, but a spinning or bait casting rod is a little different. Not much.
The price of cork however ( the one on the rod I am making $37.), I think I would try NOT to cut it, specially if you are going after the reel seat which is on the end.
However, the boiling water doesn't always work.
It didn't on my Browning and the CORK is what I am trying to save. So in my case I will have to take off the Hook Keep and the winding check to slide half the cork up. Then sand it down and try to connect the two pieces of cork.
As I said, it broke right in half and one side turns freely.
