Black or White Crappie? - 20inchbass - 09-26-2009 Caught this the other day in a Cunningham Falls Resivior in Maryland. Not sure if it is black or white... The white one has bars go up and down the black more or less has specs like the one in your picture. Hmm researching more it might be a hybrid. It has characteristics of both. White crappie has head back and 8 to 10 vertical bars and 5 to 6 spikes on dorsal fin. Black Crappie has scattered specs and 7 to 8 spikes on dorsal fin. your fish has the head back, no bars and 5 spikes on dorsal fin like a white crappie but it has the scattered black specs like a black crappie.
