Taxidermy recommendations - HookJaw_Brimhall - 07-20-2009 I have wanted to mount a grouse for a long time, and I think this is the year I will do it. First I need to shoot me a nice bird, but it should be a good year for that. Anyway, I would like to mount my sage hen if I draw this year. If not, maybe a nice blue or ruffie. Is it possible to mount a sage grouse in full strutt? Like this? [inline 3.bmp] Who do you guys reccomend? And what do you think I should expect to pay for a nice bird mount? Thanks, Matt [signature] Re: [HookJaw_Brimhall] Taxidermy recommendations - RILEYFISH - 07-20-2009 Not sure on a taxidermist. But I know that I will be paying my 72.00 bucks to the cowboy state for a license to go hunt them up there. I know where to nice flocks are spending the summer and come Sept 19th, I know where I will be![ ![]() [signature] Re: [HookJaw_Brimhall] Taxidermy recommendations - trout_slayer - 08-01-2009 Ask TAXIMAN, he owns Campbell Taxidermy up in Hyrum. He will tell you what he will charge. TS [signature] Re: [HookJaw_Brimhall] Taxidermy recommendations - sliverslinger - 08-10-2009 Matt, Did you draw a sage hen tag? I did not, but did draw a sharpie permit. As far as your request for a taxidermist goes, I am a bird taxi freak! I have spent countless hours researching guys here in state and in the western U.S. I have various birds mounted by many guys here locally, but there is no doubt that Jeff Nelson of Payson, UT has earned my business for life! I have never met any other taxidermist who will put so much into your mount by his attention to detail, knowledge of correct anatomical positioning and just a natural "eye" for what goes well with a mount. Plus, I guarantee you will not find a nicer guy, anywhere. He only does birds and is well worth the wait and every penny spent! Give him a call, Jake Jeff Nelson 801 310 8042 [signature] Re: [sliverslinger] Taxidermy recommendations - HookJaw_Brimhall - 08-11-2009 Yes, I drew my sage grouse permits. I'm hoping to shoot a nice male, but it will be hard to find something in "mounting" condition that early in the year. I may have to get a nice big Blue Grouse mounted. I really like this pose: [inline blue_grouse.JPG] [signature] Re: [HookJaw_Brimhall] Taxidermy recommendations - Flycasting - 08-11-2009 Yeah, I really like that pose too. I know a spot where you can shoot a few like that... [:p] [signature] |
