It is commonly used to join the fly line to the fly-reel backing line. It is well suited to slide readily through the guides when a fish pulls enough to reach your backing. 2. Arbor knot · Securing backing to reel spool 3. Barrel knot · Use to tie tippet to end of leader or to join sections of tapered leaders. I use it a lot. It forms a small knot and thus goes well with size 22 - 32 flies.
