I got up extra early ,loaded the truck and headed to the Au Sable with hopes the steelhead would be stacked up at the dam .
When I arrived I was a little shocked not to see anyone around .
The suckers had finished their spawn and were gone , I could see a few cromers surfacing here and there and thought , "Yea , the rivers all mine "!
Cast after cast using everything I had , not one hit . I had been there from dawn till noon when these two guys show up casting the same drift line I was targeting .
On this guys first cast it hit me , Al , this is not your day .
Within 45 minutes these two guys limited out . I packed my gear and left , sometimes you just have to face facts and call it quits , the fish gods aren't smiling upon you .

The steelhead only make it as far as the foote dam, the ladder has been closed from that point to controll invasive species contamination in the river system .
