for me it depends on if some one shows up with one and if he is drinking my brand of antifreeze.

Depends if the tourney allows me to use a shanty but if i am pre fishing before the contest or tourney then yes i am using a portable shack..

I usually don't, because I usually run around the lake like a spinning top jigging from hole to hole. Keeps me warm.

We allways bring one along, But i would rather fish outside. Its nice to have one with the heater going to go in and get warm though. And the heat is nice in case you get your gloves wet or something like that. I would say its better to have one and not use it, Than to not have one and need it.

Depends on the weather and what I'm after and how far I have to go out.

If I'm on foot I go as light as I can but, if I bring the quad with I bring more junk and might just tow the portable behind just in case.

Nope, I never have time to sit in a shanty: there's too much going on while running to flags, skimming holes, and jigging. A lot of times, fish move and if you sit in one spot you're sure to miss out on the motherload.
I've only used one once and it was because we were staying overnight...
