Painting small lure bodies - bdn06 - 01-14-2007
I picked up some finesse sinkers today in 1/16 and 1/8 oz. to use as small lure bodies for spinners, some will be rigged with rubber minnows and grubs, others with dressed trebles. I was wondering what the most efficient way to paint those little puppies might be. They're cylindrical, so have to be on a wire or toothpick, I guess. Powder paint clumps too much for me, so I'm using vinyl jig paint. I ended up inserting a toothpick in the end of each one, painting it, and sticking the toothpick/lure body in a piece of styrofoam for drying. I wasn't sure if anyone had used the finesse sinkers much. I really like them so far--they are cheaper than brass and easier to paint. The cylindrical shape is great for spinner bodies with french or swing blades. The 1/16 oz will even be okay for 'gill spinners with a small colorado blade.
Here are a couple of first runs...need work, but I like the lure bodies so far.
