Report from Rivers End Tackle - gdn443 - 04-29-2006 UPDATED BY PAT ON FRIDAY, APRIL 28th, 2006 STRIPED BASS- The Connecticut River is having its maybe a little better than usual spring run of schoolies. Its a toss up whether its the mild weather thats bringing out more fishermen or theres just more fish. There's action at all the usual spots, the Woodlot, Marker 25, Lieutenant River etc. Most of the bass are in the 15 - 20" range with an occaisional two footer thrown in. The most effective lures have been leadheaded soft plastic lures such as the Storm Shad types of jigs. We have been hearing of more Slugo-go action this week, thats usually a sign that theres bigger baits and bass around. From the local shore the Causeway is still on the list of producers with the inside doing better. Leadheads are best here, while at the DEP Piers bait is better. New Haven Harbor has a mess of schoolies. Upriver theres been some larger schoolies in the Windsor area and some 2 to 3 foot bass in the Cromwell to Portland area of the River. FLOUNDER- Theres some activity in the Niantic River but even there its dwindling. The rumors of flats at the breakwater still persists but I have yet to get a firsthand report. FLUKE- No it hasn't started yet but NY has finally set its regulations. The season for NY will be May 6th thru September 12th with a 4 fish 18" limit. In Connecticut its April 30th thru December 31st with a 6 fish limit at 18". Rhode Island is May 1st to December 31st with a 7 fish limit at 17.5 ". BLACKFISH- It seems like they had a very good run at the Clinton Breakwater last week. Sunday April 30th is the last day of the spring season. SEMINARS- April 29th- Saltwater Fly Fishing School with Lou Tabory and Q Kresser May 6th- The Butterfly Jigging Teshnique with the Shimano Pro Staff. HOURS- We'll be open this Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 5pm. Next Monday through Friday we'll be open from 7am to 6pm. Rivers End Tackle 440 Boston Post Road Old Saybrook, CT 06475 [signature] |
