[font "Arial"][size 2]This year’s Ag Expo takes place July 18-20 on the MSU Ag Expo grounds in East Lansing. If you’re not familiar with Ag Expo, this annual event has been drawing thousands of visitors (12,000 attended in 2005) to MSU for the past 26 years. It features demonstrations that appeal to serious and hobby agriculturalists, and home-owners looking for lawn and garden ideas. The exposition also offers family-oriented activities, including an antique and garden tractor pull, a toy tractor show and an FFA tractor driving contest (learn more at [url "http://www.agexpo.msu.edu/"]http://www.agexpo.msu.edu/[/url]). [font "Arial"][size 2]For the last few years, the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (which hosts Ag Expo) has had its own tent with exhibits from the college’s various programs, including 4-H. Last year, the CANR tent drew 7,000 visitors who especially enjoyed the educational sessions and the many children’s activities offered in the tent.[/size][/font]

[font "Arial"][size 2]The CANR tent is really an expo within an expo and is a large undertaking all by itself. Many hands are needed to make the tent a success. Last year, 4-H played a major part in the tent’s success by providing staff and students to help with the many activities going on inside the tent. The CANR tent planning committee is looking for similar help from 4-H this year. [/size][/font]

[font "Arial"][size 2]4-H CLUBS COULD EARN $200 FOR VOLUNTEERING[/size][/font]
[font "Arial"][size 2]We need volunteers to work in the tent, doing things like setting up and tearing down exhibits, greeting visitors, directing traffic, helping children in the youth activity areas, serving food samples, keeping the tent clean, running errands, etc. We’d like you to help get the word out to all 4-H volunteers and leaders, asking them to consider volunteering in the CANR Ag Expo tent as a community service activity for their clubs. Each club that wishes to participate would need to provide at least eight volunteers age 14 or older to work one full day at Ag Expo (clubs can divide larger numbers of participants into shifts, provided eight volunteers are available at all times). In exchange, CANR will pay each club $200 and mileage reimbursement, and provide each volunteer with a meal ticket. We’re looking for talented youth musicians, dancers, clowns, magicians and other talented 4-H youth to perform in the CANR tent during Ag Expo.
