Gentleman 3/4day Fishing Report 5/22/05 - tubeN2 - 05-24-2005
The Boat left at 6:05 and headed for Harrisons Reef area.
Capt John at the helm. DH Brian, DH Jim and PH Sean. Cathy in the Galley.
We got a nice assortment of Bocaccios, Chile Peppers, Reds, Browns, Bankies, Gophers, Mick Jaggers, Barber Poles, Skittles and [shocked] a sunfish!!! I almost landed it but I didn't have the extra 2000yds of line and the Captain didn't feel like chasing it down either.(he said we didn't have enough gas) oh well
2 nice lings were brought on board and lots of shorts realeased.
We returned to the docks at 3:55pm[cool]

Hey there TubeN2,
It's amazing how many times those sunfish are hooked .... not caught by anglers ........ as they are actually mainly plankton eaters I believe. I guess they are kinda like a carp that will hit a lure or live bait on occasion.
Nice variety of fish ought to get you most species caught chanpionship for sure.

The little sunfish was only about 60lbs or so. It would have made some points for the contest and still have the chance to live. I tried to convince him of that as I watched the last 30 yds leave my spool.
Since everyone was fishing squid at the time and scaring the hell out of the school of sunnies, I decide to flyline a Gulp Sandworm. He took it hook, line, and sinkerless.
I saw a sunfish last year that was pushing an easy 500lbs. The Capt of the boat yelled out on the PA "DO NOT HOOK THE SUNFISH." "IT WILL SPOOL YOU BECAUSE I WILL NOT CHASE IT FOR ANYONE"!!!!!
I decided to take my chances with a baby one and still lost all the 15lb Ultra Green off of my Avet SX.[cool]
