Useing chum for ice fishing - gdn443 - 01-08-2005

I heard a fella has been useing chopped upped shiners for chum while ice fishing. Has anyone tried this method? Not that we could use it this year, but would like to know how well it works. What say ya Tom?

this can be a mixed bessing.

if you do it at a low feeding time you will draw in some unexpected visiters to your hole.

yes it dose bring in the fish when they are feeding, I cut in half all my dead minnows in my bucket and put them down the hole.

I catch my share of fish, I also catch more than my fair share of mudpuppies

I sure miss the dog days of ice season. come on ice!!!

I had never thought of chumming while on the ice. May have to try it some year that we get ice. At this rate I'll be uncovering the boat in a couple of weeks. Never caught a mud puppy. You don't eat those things? We don't have um down here.

I havent eaten one, but they dont seem to be much weirder than a sea water insect bug like a shrimp or lobster. (dont care for lobster) (do Like shrimp)

I managed to get on the lake today, we have 0-5 inches of ice on my lake. and idiots on orv's. I managed a couple crappie half dozen perch and a blue gill and a rock bass.

My buddy managed about 20 nice gills.

tomarow the worm weather sets back in. so much for ice season this week...
