Standings 2024 Summer Challenge - SkunkedAgain - 03-21-2024

So far I'm the only one that has entered anything in this contest, I did put John's biggest cat, I assumed he would enter the challenge since he did last year.  Anyway I'm not posting a spreadsheet since there aren't any fish to look at.  I'll catch up when we get a few other fish on the chart... Good luck and if you haven't signed up yet, it's free and not too hard to enter your catches...  Good luck everyone... Later J

RE: Standings 2024 Summer Challenge - SkunkedAgain - 04-02-2024

Here's a day late April first update so you'll know it's not a joke....  Jim is leading the charge with the massive cat starter, we have several fish starting to show up... If I have missing anyone's entries please remind me... It seems like there was another trout on ice post besides Ron, but I can't find it, so please let me know if I have overlooked your score...  Going to be fun this year and remember one category doesn't necessarily win the challenge, so don't be intimidated by Jim's high early score.. As soon as other categories get going things will even out... Congrats Jim for an impressive start...  Later J

RE: Standings 2024 Summer Challenge - SkunkedAgain - 06-11-2024

Boy you guys need to fire me... Sorry for the super slow updates this year, been crazy busy and having computer issues so when I'm getting time to look at it, my ability to score the fish has been not working... Anyway except for Julie's fish I think I have the challenge fish updated... So check out the score and if I've missed some of your fish, please drop me a PM and let me know and I'll get them scored...

But as of today minus Julie's update, we have a three way tie between Jim, Brett and Joe, When I verify Julie's I think it will make it a 4 way tie for first place adding Julie to the mix....  Crazy how this format juggles everyone around with a couple fish in different categories... Anyway here are the current scores, there are some really great fish showing up check out some of them outside of the catfish contest like Joe's 38" laker... I'll try and do better on the next update... Later J

RE: Standings 2024 Summer Challenge - SkunkedAgain - 09-26-2024

We just had a change in the top spot, well Brett tied Jim at number one... by the way great job everyone and sorry I have been so vacant at keeping scores up to date this summer... Just got a few of my heavy hitting commitments relieved for a little while so trying to catch up a little... If I have missed some of your scores, please let me know so I can give you proper credit.. But here is today's score, I think we have a little over a month left for the contest, plenty of time to get out and add some new scores... Good luck..

RE: Standings 2024 Summer Challenge - SkunkedAgain - 10-28-2024

Final five days of the contest, Brett and Jim are still tied for number one.... Good luck to both of you, this is one of those years where someone besides the top two could catch a fish and change who the winner will be.... If I caught a 26" carp Jim would win, or if anyone that doesn't have a bass caught one then Brett would win... Or lots of other combos could shape the results... So if you're one to through a curve ball, here's your chance... five days and counting... Good luck everyone.. Later Jeff

Well, I'm slow you're going to have to fire me, but before I go here's the results from the summer challenge:

Jim (Pisco) came in with a couple fish the last week that secured his first place finish, but he had a great dueling buddy with Brett (Joatman) those two went back and forth first and second place like most of their entries... They got some great fish (33" channelcat, 13" crappie and a 27" carp) this summer along with RedRebel's 38" Mac and Mike's 29" walleye we seen some great fish entered this year... Sorry I didn't give this contest the attention it deserved.... Hope everyone had fun, and if I can round up some prizes I'll get them scattered around.... Thank you very much for your participation and congratulations on some great fish... Later Jeff

Hey Jeff, I haven't been keeping up on the contest, who is Mike? Wow, a 29" walleye is a great eye. Was it caught at Utah lake?

Hey Curt, Mike is MSM1970, the master of Utah Lake Walleye's... I don't know of many other's that are as consistent catching good eyes as Mike...  Anyway I figured you knew who it was, but just to confirm for you... Later Jeff

OK, he was the only one I could think of on the site that post about them, that catches big eyes, just wasn't sure if that was his first name.

Wow, that's a great eye out of starvation. I figured there were a few that big in there but it's great to hear you have figured them out there. Were you using the same tactics you use at UL when you caught it?

I do throw alot of jigs out here, that one was caught trolling at night, It was a great june full moon, we probably boated 30+ eyes that night, biggest was her 23 and my 29, most 15 -.  There are big ones in there, still finding all the best places and times to hit them,  we was trolling in 5 to 15 ft, pulling cranks, running shallow in the dark is pretty stressful running that close to the bank.

That's good to know you can catch them there, trolling cranks and I hear you about trolling that shallow, especially at night. How many hours did you troll that night, to catch 30 plus eyes?

started about 6 that night,  hottest hour before and after dark, It slowed down about 2:30 so we left, got home about 4 in the morning, fun fishing in the full moon.

That sounds like a long night, 8.5 hours on the water, hope the mosquitoes weren't too bad.

When fishin is good its hard to leave and time flies by,  paid for it the next day, WORTH it, No skeeters, nats tones of nats, had to use red lights, stern light was a swarm, wore head nets. had to vacuum the boat out of dead nats,  the next day.

RE: Standings 2024 Summer Challenge - SkunkedAgain - 11-19-2024

Hey Mike, I really like that information... I had no idea you had caught that many... I'll bet that is tricky to fish shallow in the dark... Were you using side planers or just behind the boat? I'd think the night stealth attack on eyes would be fun once you figure out how to do it... I've got to learn some of your technics, bet they would work on cats at night as well... Soon be done with the project and then I hope to get to work on my boat to make it more fishing friendly... I had my old boat set up with under the gunwales lighting that worked well for night time cat trips, but I think your eye trips sound more fun... Things are so tight on Cutler, I'm not sure I'd dare troll at night, might run into something I don't want to, when I'm sleepy and not paying attention... Thanks for the details you posted, they were very interesting... Later Jeff

Willard would be on to give a try,  on the may and june full moon, its got nice strait banks,  you have to learn to trust you GPS, its good to get a bread crumb trail mapped out before dark to try to keep you on the strait and deep enough, they kept us busy, run planers before dark then had 4 rods out the back, long lining after dark. kept a light shinning toward shore to see it before I found it the hard way, It is a challenge for sure.
