Free pass for Vets - dubob - 03-12-2018 [#800000]On the Federal side, there are several options for military service members. Active military can get an annual pass for free. Non-active, non-disabled military Veterans (retired or otherwise) don’t qualify for a free pass. If they are 62 or older, they can purchase a ‘Senior Pass’ for $10 (in person) or $20 (thru the mail) and it is good for the life of the user. If you are a VA certified disabled Veteran, you qualify for the free, lifetime ‘Access Pass’ with proper documentation (including proof of disability). On the Utah side, disabled Veterans (with 50% or more rating) can get a free, annual pass from Utah Parks & Recreation offices state wide with proper documentation of your disability rating (VA Letter works for this). I’m fortunate to have the older ‘Fun Tag’ that was issued for life and is still honored but not replaceable if lost or stolen. I also have the Federal Access Pass and use it and my Fun Tag all the time for discounts on camping and entrance to some state and federal venues. Be aware that there are a few places that these passes don’t work. Pineview and Strawberry don’t honor the Federal passes because they are run by a concessionaire and they don’t have to honor the pass for day use. But they will work for a 50% discount on the camping rate (but not for a discount on the electric hook up rate). There are also a couple of state parks that don’t honor the state pass for free day use. But by in large, it is a very good thing to have both in your possession at all times. Thanks for the reminder Todd.[/#] [signature] |
