New Rock Piles at Willard - Trent_S - 12-22-2017 Hi Willard fishing folks - Perhaps many of you like myself were not aware that DWR recently added new rock piles (rock reefs) to Willard. Here is the info I got from Chris Penne at DWR (see also attached picture): This is pubic information, though maybe DWR hasn't been great about putting the word out on it. See attached for a picture our Habitat Biologist, Kent Sorenson took on his boat sonar just after the rock reef was constructed. If you look at the top left of the picture, the coordinates are displayed. To my knowledge, the rocks were dropped in about 50 discrete piles, so it is not one large continuous reef. You can see from the picture that each rock pile stands about 2 feet off the floor of the reservoir and is several feet long. Once you find these coordinates, keep a look out for the other rock piles. I believe they were built along a line going from the SE to the NW on a line at roughly the same angle that the inlet enters the reservoir. Re: [Trent_S] New Rock Piles at Willard - Trent_S - 12-23-2017 I guess everyone already knew about this. Good to know about the rock piles. I do seek structure when ice fishing. If I ice fish there, I'll drop my camera down to look at the rock piles and see the fish using the structure. It was covered by Adam Eakle on one if his shows. Jim Cross of Cross Marine performed the labor portion of this task. Not sure where the rock came from but I believe you and I paid the materials bill. [signature] |
